Abstract

The Atmospheric Sciences Section of this state agency has its roots in weather modification. In fact, the initiation of weather-related research and services, which began at the Water Survey in 1947, occurred largely as a result of the weather modification interest of Lester Pfister, a grower of seed corn located near Bloomington in central lllinois. Mr. Pfister had heard about weather modification and wanted to test and use it for obtaining more rain on his seed corn fields scattered around El Paso, located north of Bloomington.
