Abstract

Bulk nucleation testing of kiln and stack effluent from several mineral processing facilities near Calgary, Alberta indicates the presence of anthropogenic ice nuclei. Many of the samples tested activate above -7.7°C and have a theoretical crystal chemistry similar to that of silver iodide and natural ice. Stack effluent captured by pollution control devices is considered to be a waste product but may have potential for use in directed cloud-seeding operations.
